Most of us are becoming more aware of the fact that berries are very berry good for us. Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, (and I am always thinking organic when I think of buying berries), have high amounts of natural antioxidants that keep us feeling and looking younger and healthier longer.
Compounds in blueberries, called anthocyanins, have those same beneficial antioxidant properties, which may contribute to many health benefits and more as new research is now discovering! A new study has just come out that says not only are they filled with antioxidants but they may also help to prevent diabetes and improved insulin sensitivity. Drinking 2 blueberry smoothies per day helped obese adults who were pre-diabetic improve insulin sensitivity, researchers report (22.5 grams of blueberry freeze-dried powder twice a day for six weeks)- according to www.webmd.com
Imagine of we combined the -‘eat more blueberries’, with exercise vigorously 1/2 an hour daily, consume at least 30 grams of fiber a day (beans, vegetables, flax seeds…), eat three vegetables with every meal, try to stay on a low glycemic diet AND finally, add a dab of cinnamon with that-which also helps with sugar control and I bet we could heal 50% -maybe even more- of type two diabetes In America today! That’s just my guess but I have to say that I am feeling pretty right on about this one. Anyone up for the challenge?
