Bush Tea

22 Mar

So my wonderful neighbors, yes them again- they graciously lent me a television series that takes place in Africa. Every time something good or bad or neutral happens on the show, the lady detective asks her assistance for a cup of bush tea. Apparently bush tea is good to calm her, it is good when she is excited, sad, bored or just plain working. I happen to love red bush tea myself. I have been drinking it for years and when I found out that it was also really good for me, well, that’s all that needed to happen before I was drinking 6-10 cups of red tea a day. Thus I feel compelled to share the health giving qualities of this delicious, aromatic, health providing herbal tea with you so that you, Ma from Africa and I can enjoy and benefit together.

So what is this bush tea all about?

  • Contains similar amounts of polyphenols to green tea and has been shown to be anti-carcinogenic, anti-mutagenic, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral activity.
  • Naturally caffeine-free so is ideal for people who want to cut back on caffeine or want to drink it before going to bed. Actually it’s recommended you drink it before going to bed as it can help with insomnia.
  • Contains calcium, manganese and fluoride to help maintain strong teeth and bones.
  • Contains alpha hydroxy acid and zinc, so good for the skin.
  • Contains no oxalic acid so people with kidney stones can drink it because there’s .
  • Full of vitamins and minerals such as zinc, copper, calcium, manganese, magnesium, potassium.
  • You can buy it in bulk or mixed with a chai blend or just on its own in a tea bag. I like mine with a little stevia and it is divine, dessert like, with a dab of honey or maple syrup.
