Numerous studies have shown that tea polyphenols, mainly green tea polyphenols, contain anti-cancer properties especially if one consumes 4 to 6 cups daily. Most of the information presented to the public focuses on the benefits of green tea- To date green tea has also been linked to a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s and certain cancers, improved cardiovascular and oral health, as well as benefits in weight management.
But I have to say, in terms of flavor, my palate much prefers black teas or red teas. So does that mean that I am out of luck in terms of cancer prevention and other disease prevention? According to the research, not at al! You should know that not only does black tea contain some, albeit less of the same active constituents as green tea, namely, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), but black tea also has polyphenols as well, (theaflavins and thearubigins)-so does white tea.
So today I think I will pass on the green tea, but please feel free to pass me that cup of earl grey!
